Ka-Puah-Suah Nocturnal Ceremony

The Pingpu tribe was once the master of Taiwan’s land while the nocturnal ceremony of the Ka-Puah-Suah (meaning cotton tree flowers) helps us re-acquaint with the master of real life in this land.

The Ka-Puah-Suah is considered the biggest tribe of the Siraya lineage’s Soulangh community still in existence. Located in Donghe Village of Dongshan District, the tribe still keeps its tradition of holding the ‘Arit nocturnal ceremony’ on the night of each September 4th of the Lunar Calendar. Additionally the Sea Howling Festival is also held at noontime on the 5th, and it features rare and mystical rituals, that are considered together with the nocturnal ceremony of Toushe Village in Danei District as the two key Pingpu ceremonies in Tainan City.
